#StrongerTogether: Introducing Jakub Dejewski, Co-CEO of IVF Media Ltd.
It happened again last week! What happened, you may be asking? I had an instant connection with another like-minded person who has a passion for helping others after his own struggle to build a family. Throughout my life, I have connected with fertility warrior after fertility warrior who share the same goal as I do. We want to help others who struggle with fertility. We know the struggle is real. The struggle is difficult and overwhelming. For some reason, as soon as you know that someone else has struggled, you feel like they instantly “get it.” To be honest, until you walk a mile in these fertility shoes, it’s just hard to imagine what it is really like. One of the things that truly resonates with me is that infertility affects people from all walks of life all around the world. It is a global problem and we can make a bigger impact when we work together around the world. We are #StrongerTogether.
Last week I had the privilege and honor to “meet” Jakub Dejewski from Poland on a Zoom call. It was the first time I had "met" him. Jakub said he found me on the internet and reached out to me via email because he is working on an initiative called #StrongerTogether. He was interested in knowing if I'd like to support his initiative. Initially, I wasn't exactly sure what #Stronger Together was until I opened the link he provided. To my surprise, I discovered that I knew three the ambassadors all from different countries who were supporting #StrongerTogether already! What a small world!
At that point I asked Jakub if we could talk so I could thoroughly understand what he is doing to help the fertility community. In late September, 2020, we enjoyed a wonderful conversation and I learned that Jakub and his wife, Ann, had struggled with fertility too. I’d like to take a moment to share Jakub’s story directly from him.
I was born in a family of many children. I had a much older brother and two younger sisters. My wife's family was even bigger. There were five with her. It was therefore quite natural for us to have a family with many children. Maybe not as big as that, but still with many children.
We got married quite early, right after our fourth year of study. The biggest challenge after graduation was to get a good job. So we climbed the ladders of our careers, forgetting about parenthood. But mother nature does not forget. There was a crisis in our relationship and maybe it woke us up a bit.
We started to make efforts. We started this journey, like millions of other couples in the world: with my wife's visit to her gynecologist. And these efforts have been made for a few years. Then the fertility clinic: diagnosis, the first ART procedures. No results. Then Ann, underwent first laparoscopy with hysteroscopy, and then another one year later. After the second operation, her AMH decreased below 1.0
After more than 10 years of effort, we decided to start the adoption process. It took 2.5 years from start to finish. Today we are the parents of a nearly 6-year-old son. His name is Aleksander. Three years ago we made a decision to start the second adoption process. We are still waiting. We know that it will be much more difficult than previously.
Believe it or not, I have worked most of the time in one of the biggest IVF clinics in Poland during these years of efforts. Coincidence? I do not believe in coincidences. After almost 10 years in this clinic, I decided to start my own initiative as CEO of IVF Media Ltd. I started this journey together with my friend Aleksander Wiecki.
For those whose possibilities are already exhausted or are very limited for treatment in their own country, or it may be impossible due to legislation, IVF Media Ltd. helps to find a clinic abroad. In addition, since October 2017 we have been running #IVFWEBINARS, of which over 200 are now available on myIVFanswers.com.
I am certain that after reading Jakub’s story you are not surprised to learn of our instant connection. Within our 30-minute conversation, I really could feel the kindness in Jakub's heart and the mission he's on to connect people around the world and help them on their family building journey. Suffice it to say, I am now an Ambassador for IVFMedia too.
